Panel Press / parent controls update

A library for each child.
A plan you control.

The selected Panel Press design is applied to the shared Mac and iOS web experience. This is a dated release record, not a background activity feed.

12 October 2026 / Now inside the app

The 65-channel guide.

Open Parents → Discover → Channel guide. The complete catalogue is now in Harris Vision with genuine channel icons, subject and age filters, Starter 12, saved channels and direct browsing of each creator’s uploads.

Search results and saved channels use creator icons too. Saving a channel does not approve its videos; choose and review each pick for the appropriate child.

12 October 2026 / One parent discovery area

Discover + Quick add.

Channel guides, YouTube search and saved channels now share Parents → Discover. Quick add accepts a copied video link, Short, channel link or @handle and fetches the details automatically.

Save a video for parent review, or approve it for selected children. Save a channel in one confirmation. Duplicate videos open their existing review instead of being added twice.

Use the Paste button, or paste normally into the field if your device does not provide clipboard access.

See the approved Paper + Ink logo → Blue-and-orange comic branding is now applied to the web and in-app header. The matching iOS home-screen icon is available in TestFlight 0.5.1 (7). Update the app in TestFlight to replace the old home-screen icon.

12 October 2026 / More range, reviewed additions

Ten more places to explore.

The guide now has 65 channels. New additions cover Australian museums, literature, music, chemistry and illustrated science. Each has a verified creator icon, an editorial age guide and notes on what to preview.

The catalogue is curated. It does not automatically learn a child’s tastes. Use interests, learning notes and feedback to choose better-fitting weekly picks; watch time is not proof of learning.

13 October 2026 / Ideas from the children

Suggest. Review. Explore.

Children can use My ideas → Suggest something to ask for a video or episode, a channel, or a learning topic. A name is enough; a YouTube link and reason are optional.

Parents see the request and sender under Parents → Requests. Approve it or choose Not now, with an optional reply the child can see.

Video approval adds the reviewed pick for that child. Channel approval adds a source while videos still need individual approval. Topic approval adds an interest for future plans.

Children and limits

Their own viewing space.

Separate profiles, ages, interests, learning notes and avoid lists. A parent chooses which child uses each device.

  • Approve each pick for the individual child.
  • Set a daily allowance and optional viewing window.
  • Autoplay is off by default.
  • Outside service links are off by default per child, because this app cannot time or stop their playback.
Planning

Move the week around.

Draft a week for one child, reorder picks, move them between days, or swap scheduled days. Limits still apply to the published plan.

Send a saved brief reference to Max or Kira for researched suggestions. Review the new picks before publishing. Cordia notes can be pasted in; Cordia is not connected.

Reported by the player

What played, and what happened.

The parent report records playback time, skipped picks, seeking, unique coverage, reaching the end and optional written reflections. It does not prove attention or learning.

A replay adds viewing time but does not inflate coverage. A jump to the end does not count as completion. Outside-service completion is self-reported and watch time remains unknown. Missing connection updates may leave short gaps.

Playback pauses when the app is hidden or its connection lease expires. These are Harris Vision controls, not an operating-system parental lock.

Content review

Guidance with a source.

Suggested channels link to independent reviews and age guidance, with cautions. A channel suggestion never approves all its uploads. Strict YouTube filtering and exclusion of age-restricted results help shortlist content; they cannot guarantee suitability.

Live and verified / 12 October 2026

Search YouTube inside Parents.

The YouTube connection is active. Real channel search, video search, channel uploads and pagination have passed against the live service.

  1. Open Parents and unlock with your PIN.
  2. Choose Search YouTube, then search for a channel, topic or episode.
  3. Browse the results, review a video and add it to the appropriate child’s library or playlist.

Saving a channel does not approve all its videos. Picks still need parent review and child-specific approval. Viewer access to broad YouTube search remains blocked.

Verified with a disposable test family, removed after checking. This verifies search, not playback or AirPlay on physical devices.

Verification

Tested, with clear boundaries.

Database-backed tests cover profile isolation, PIN-gated assignment, budgets, concurrent playback, duplicate updates, seeking, replay coverage, pairing expiry and day rollover. Phone and desktop browser flows cover setup, approvals, planning and reports.

Player instrumentation uses controlled player events in automated tests. YouTube playback, AirPlay and outside-provider behaviour still need physical-device checks. No automated test is presented as proof of attention or appropriate content.
